Spandex Jumpsuits - Fad or Fashion?

Spandex jumpsuit are versatile and stylish piece of clothing. Spandex, Lycra or elastane is a synthetic fiber that was created because it is very elastic and durable. In fact, Spandex is stronger and more durable than rubber, its major non-synthetic competitor. This futuristic cloth was invented in 1959 by chemist Joseph Shivers at DuPont's Benger Laboratory in Waynesboro, Virginia. Officially a polyurethane- polyurea copolymer this amazing material revolutionized the clothing industry when it was introduced and took the world of fashion by storm. The very cleaver name "Spandex" is an anagram of the word "expands". This is the primary name used in North America; in many European countries it is referred to as "elastane".

The production of Spandex fibers happens in four different ways. These production methods are; melt extrusion, reaction spinning, solution dry spinning, and solution wet spinning. Each and every one of these methods include the initial step of reacting monomers to produce a prepolymer. Having the prepolymer, it is then further reacted in various ways and drawn out to produce a long fiber. The dry spinning method is used to produce over 94.5% of the world's spandex fibers, and that is by far the most and easiest method used today.

Spandex usually appears as a cool material to create womens clothing, although it is used in some mens clothing as well. But the Spandex Jumpsuit is by far the most famous and popular use for Spandex. A Spandex Jumpsuit will make you look like a top Hollywood star that is about to walk down the red carpet. These form fitting Spandex Jumpsuits make any women look sexy and beautiful.
